Overview

Inspired by the principles of Outward Bound®, this program was developed to meet the diverse range of our students’ needs. Project FEAT utilizes a wide range of outdoor activities grounded in the principles of adventure, experiential learning, education, and service learning. It is an integral component of our overall curriculum, offering students active learning opportunities outside the classroom and off-campus.

Benefits

Day trips are designed and coordinated in support of our student’s individual goals. Students are introduced to new, challenging situations that require teamwork, social pragmatics, and peer leadership skills. They are encouraged to explore new ways of processing information in situations that require expanding their range of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These excursions provide opportunities to explore independence, develop a greater sense of self, build community, take on responsibility, and encourage contribution to the larger world.

Activities

Past excursions have offered a wide variety of activities including rock-climbing, kayaking, hiking, first aid and winter safety, cross-country skiing, and canoeing. We have also incorporated “city trips” to art & science museums, aquariums, and other institutions with educational opportunities. Day trips are scheduled twice monthly, and optional overnight trips are organized based on student interest and instructor availability in the Spring and Fall. Students also may participate in to two four-day wilderness trips a year. One trip is to Broccoli Hall @ Silver Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.
